Attacks against schools in Afghanistan
Education Above All strongly condemns the recent targeting of school children in Kabul, Afghanistan, on Tuesday. Bomb blasts at the Abdul Raheem Shaheed High School for boys in the Afghan capital have reportedly killed at least nine children and injured more than fifty. EAA also understands that the nearby Mumtaz Tuition Center was also targeted.
EAA condemns all attacks on students, teachers and education facilities in Afghanistan and worldwide. EAA calls on all parties to the conflict in Afghanistan to protect education and ensure that all school-aged children are in school.
The UN Security Council Resolution 2601, passed unanimously in October 2021, is a global consensus that requires all parties to armed conflict to safeguard the right to education for all and ensure that schools are protected safe spaces. This latest attack in Afghanistan only confirms how urgent it is to hold those who attack education accountable and for the international community to unite to protect all students, educators, and schools.
