A Youth Leading Climate Change Action in Vietnam
Huynh Thi Huyen Tran (aged 22) is a student representing the Faculty of Environment and Environmental Resources of Can Tho University. As a Faculty of Environment and Environmental Resources student, Tran has participated in several project activities, especially implementing youth initiatives for sustainable development.
During her studies, Tran conducted research on the application of small-scale renewable energy devices in practice, which later served as a theoretical foundation for her initiatives on the installation of equipment using solar energy, such as solar lights and water filters that use solar energy.
Tran’s initiative contributes to the project’s youth initiative framework that aims to reduce fossil energy usage and encourage renewable energy, thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The initiative has elevated the livelihood of more than 4000 direct rights holders who are students, women, and girls. Furthermore, more than 15,000 people in the Mekong Delta provinces where the project activities are implemented have also benefited indirectly from the activity.
