The proposed program will address the problem of social isolation and vulnerability among youth from Al Buss, Myeh w Myeh and Nahr El Bared Camps and surrounding area by providing them with access to sports and recreation activities in safe and supportive environments. None of the camps have adequate facilities for sports. Al Buss camp has a playfield but it is in urgent need of rehabilitation. In In Myeh w Myeh the only play space was on the site of an UNRWA school which was destroyed in 1991. Since then children and youth play on a barren area of concrete that is unsuitable and unsafe.

Though this play site is in dire need of renovation, unfortunately, due to security concerns, over the last 6 months it has not been possible for ANERA to obtain a permit from the Lebanese Army to do any form of re-construction or rehabilitation work within the camp. Since February 2017, serious armed clashes have been taking place between Palestinian joint security forces and members of Islamist militants with links to Al-Qaeda in the nearby Ein El Hilweh camp (which lies only few km from Myeh w Myeh camp). These clashes have been regularly taking place on average of once every two weeks with increasing levels of use of violence. The last of which was on 5th May 2017. The clashes are expected to continue as there does not seem to be a peaceful solution is yet in the horizon.

Therefore, due to the denial of construction permits and security concerns in Myeh w Myeh ANERA suggested to add the rehabilitation of the Nahr El Bared playfield instead. The activities of building of capacities for sports clubs and coaches (Outcome2) and the participation of youth in sports courses and tournaments (Outcome 3) in Al Buss and Miyeh w Miyeh and Nahr El Bared Camp. The playfield in Nahr El Bared, was totally destroyed during the 2007 clashes. Recently, in December 2016 the Lebanese Army released control of the playfield from a military zone and give it back to be manged by local community and camp residents. ANERA is suggesting the addition of this location as an alternative and more significant location that will maximize benefit and ensure viability.
