Equitable Access to Quality Primary Education for Out of School Children in Tanzania
Education Above All, through its global programme, Educate A Child, has partnered with UNICEF to increase access to quality primary education to 100,003 out of school children. Over the course of 5 years, the “Equitable Access to Quality Primary Education for Out of School Children in Tanzania” project will be implemented through the Ministry of Education Youth and Sport and the President’s Office--Regional Administration and Local Government in regions with high incidence of poverty and numbers of OOSC. The goal of the project is to improve access to and retention in quality primary education for out of school children in mainland Tanzania.
The interventions are designed to be implemented in a sequence that matches the project outcomes: (1) Increased enrolment and retention through a community sensitisation campaign and community-based enrolment process, including access support. (2) Increased accessibility of education by providing additional child-friendly learning spaces and equipment. (3) Increased access to quality learning by assessing, and addressing, gaps and shortfalls in existing learning materials, and in teacher training. (4) Support for the reintegration of OOSC into the school system through mentorship, guidance and life skills training. (5) Ensuring that no child is left behind by upgrading the educational monitoring system.
