How PEIC Works

Education Above All's vision is a world where the right to education of every child and young person is protected in situations of conflict and insecurity. Through our programme Protect Education in Insecurity and Conflict (PEIC), we advocate for the right to education as a fundamental human right, protected by the international human rights law and humanitarian law. We also see the right to education as an enabler of other rights.

PEIC advocates on both high-level (top-down) and grassroots-level (bottom-up) targeting duty bearers and rights holders, respectively.

• Through its high-level advocacy, PEIC works with duty bearers such as government officials, policymakers, intergovernmental organisations, global coalitions, human rights, humanitarian, and development actors as well as education experts to ensure the collective effort to strengthen the international law and global governance for the right to education of children and youth to be protected even during conflict and insecurity.
• While advocating to duty bearers, it is equally important to empower and mobilize the agency of education right holders, especially from grassroots communities affected by conflict. Working with implementing partners in the field and through managing EAA Youth Advocacy Programme (YAP), PEIC empowers children and youth affected by conflict with knowledge and skills that are essential for the right to education advocacy as well as sustainable peacebuilding to become an active citizen contributing to building more just, peaceful and prosperous society as a long term solution for conflict prevention.
• PEIC works with leading data institutions and researchers to ensure all advocacy efforts are supported by accurate evidence on education under attack and education stakeholders are informed with the most up-to-date data.
